Is the IPv4 address really mine, or shared with other customers?

Yours. Every plan in every range includes one dedicated IPv4 address bound to your server only. It is not a shared address, and it is not behind NAT with ports forwarded to you. You can bind any service to it, run your own firewall on it, and it does not change unless you ask us to change it.

How much does an additional IPv4 address cost?

Additional addresses are available on request. Open a ticket from the client area with how many you need and what they are for, and we will quote you before anything is added to your invoice — IPv4 is a finite resource, so allocations are made per case rather than sold from a dropdown.

Why does a dedicated IP matter for sending email?

Because reputation attaches to the address. On a shared address, another customer's behaviour becomes your deliverability problem, and you cannot fix it. On a dedicated address, the sending history is entirely yours to build — which is what receiving mail servers actually judge. It is also required before a custom rDNS/PTR record means anything, and most large providers check that record before accepting mail.

Can I set a reverse DNS (PTR) record on my address?

Yes. Custom rDNS/PTR records are available, which you need if you are running a mail server and want your hostname to match your address. Open a ticket with the hostname you want and we set it on the address.

What happens if my IP address ends up on a blacklist?

Because the address is dedicated, whatever put it there came from your server, which also means you are the one who can fix it. Find and stop the cause first — an open relay, a compromised application, a script sending faster than it should — then request delisting from the list in question. Most operate a self-service form. Contact us if you believe an address arrived with existing history rather than acquiring it under you.

Does the address change if I reinstall or reboot?

No. The address stays with your service. Reinstalling the operating system, rebooting, or upgrading to a larger plan within the same location all keep the same IPv4 address. Moving the server to a different country means a different address, because it has to come from that datacenter.

Which plans include a dedicated IPv4 address?

All 21 of them, across all five ranges, starting at $4.95 a month. It is not an add-on and not reserved for higher tiers — the cheapest plan gets the same dedicated address as the most expensive one.

Can I use the address for a VPN or a private proxy?

Yes, for your own use. A dedicated address is what makes a self-hosted VPN worth running — the exit point is yours alone rather than shared with strangers whose traffic you cannot see. Normal Acceptable Use Policy terms apply, as they do to everything else.

Do you provide IPv6 as well?

Yes. IPv6 is available in every country we sell in, not just some of them. You can add up to 16 IPv6 addresses at $1.00 each per month, at checkout or later from the client area. Every plan also includes a dedicated IPv4 address as standard.

What “Dedicated IPv4” Means Here

A dedicated IPv4 address is a public internet address assigned to your server and to nothing else. At VPS For Life every plan in all five ranges includes one as standard, from $4.95 a month. It is not shared with other customers, not issued behind NAT, and it does not change when you reboot, reinstall the operating system or upgrade to a larger plan in the same location. Custom reverse DNS (PTR) records are available on it, and outbound Port 25 is open by default.

What a Dedicated Address Actually Changes

Four places where sharing an address quietly costs you something, and one where it does not matter at all.

Mail actually arrives

Receiving servers judge the sending address. On a shared IP you inherit strangers' reputation and cannot repair it; on a dedicated one the history is yours to build. It is also the precondition for a meaningful rDNS record.

You can be reached predictably

Firewall allowlists, API partners, database clients and remote-access rules all key on an address. One that is stable and yours is the difference between a rule you write once and a rule you keep fixing.

Every port is yours

Behind NAT you get a forwarded subset and someone else's decisions about the rest. With a dedicated address you bind whatever you like to whatever port you like.

Blame is traceable

If the address is listed somewhere, it was your server. That sounds like a downside until you have tried to get a shared address delisted for something you did not do.

Geolocation is consistent

Services that behave differently by country see one address in one place, rather than a pool that moves around.

Where it does not matter

Serving an ordinary website over HTTPS. SNI removed that requirement years ago, so do not let anyone sell you an IP for that reason alone.

IPv4 is genuinely scarce. Extra addresses are allocated per case with a reason, not bought in bulk from a dropdown.

Changing country changes the address

An address belongs to the datacenter it is routed from, so moving the server between countries means a new one.

It does not make you anonymous

A dedicated address is yours, which is the opposite of blending in. If privacy is the goal, read what we do and do not record instead.
