VPS for cPanel/WHM

A clean server with root. The licence comes from cPanel.

That second sentence is the one most hosting pages leave vague. cPanel/WHM is commercial software licensed by cPanel, L.L.C. — we sell you the machine it runs on, not the software. What we give you is a bare supported OS, genuine root access and a dedicated IP, which is everything the installer asks of the server.

  • Root for installer and activation
  • Clean OS, no panel to remove
  • AlmaLinux and Rocky templates
  • Licence bought separately

What the Server Has to Provide, and What It Cannot

cPanel/WHM asks four things of the machine underneath it: a clean supported operating system, enough memory, genuine root access, and an IP address of its own. Every plan here provides root and a dedicated IPv4, and every template ships bare rather than with a competing panel already on it. The two things we deliberately do not state on this page are cPanel's current minimum RAM figure and its current list of supported distributions — because both are cPanel's to change, both have changed before, and a stale number on a hosting page is how someone ends up buying a plan whose installer refuses to run. Read the current requirements at their source, then use the table below to find the cheapest plan here that meets them.

  • Root access on all 16 plans — installer and activation both fine.
  • Clean templates — nothing pre-installed to uninstall first.
  • AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux available, alongside Ubuntu and Debian.
  • Dedicated IPv4 included on every plan.
  • Licence is separate — bought from cPanel, not from us.
  • Still unmanaged — a panel is not a managed service.

Who Provides What

Four things come from us and two from you. The fifth row is the one worth reading twice.

  1. Full root access for the installer The cPanel/WHM installer needs genuine root to run, and licence activation needs it too. Every plan across all five ranges has it, including the cheapest, so this is never the thing that blocks you. Full root access → We provide
  2. A clean OS with nothing pre-installed cPanel expects a fresh operating system and objects to a machine that already has a competing panel or a half-configured web stack on it. Our templates ship bare, so there is nothing to uninstall before you begin. We provide
  3. RHEL-family templates AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are both available at deployment, alongside Ubuntu and Debian. Which of these cPanel currently supports is cPanel's decision and it changes over time — check their documentation before you order rather than taking our word for it. AlmaLinux VPS → We provide
  4. A dedicated IPv4 address One included on every plan. WHM wants an address of its own for SSL and mail configuration, and a shared one makes several parts of the setup awkward. Dedicated IPv4 → We provide
  5. The licence — from cPanel, not from us cPanel/WHM is commercial software licensed by cPanel, L.L.C. We do not resell it, we do not bundle it, and the server price on this site does not include it. Budget for it separately and buy it from them or an authorised partner. You provide
  6. The administration, afterwards A control panel makes server management easier; it does not make the server managed. Updates, backups and security remain yours, as on any plan here. What unmanaged means → You provide

Match cPanel's Requirement to a Plan

Read the current minimum from cPanel's own documentation, then find the row. This table stays correct whatever they change, because it is generated from our catalogue rather than from an assumption about theirs.

Match cPanel's Requirement to a Plan
If this is you Cheapest plan that fits What it gives you Price
If the current requirement is 2 GB Match the figure in cPanel's own documentation to a plan — do not take a figure from a hosting page. Business Classic VPS Classic VPS range 1 Core · 2 GB RAM 20 GB SAS $7.95/mo + $2.00 one-time setup
If it is 4 GB, or you want working headroom A panel plus the sites it hosts is the realistic load, not the panel alone. Professional NVMe VPS NVMe VPS range 2 Cores · 4 GB RAM 40 GB NVMe $17.95/mo + $0.00 one-time setup
Several hosted accounts Each account brings its own PHP processes, database and mail. This is where RAM goes. Enterprise NVMe VPS NVMe VPS range 3 Cores · 8 GB RAM 50 GB NVMe $23.95/mo + $0.00 one-time setup
A reseller or agency server Many accounts, and no single one allowed to exhaust the machine. Enterprise Cloud VPS Cloud VPS range 4 Cores · 8 GB RAM 60 GB NVMe (triple-replicated) $28.95/mo + $0.00 one-time setup
Why there is no RAM figure on this page: cPanel's requirements are theirs to change, and they have changed. A number printed here would be a number a customer buys a plan on the strength of — and then discovers the installer refuses to run. Check it at cPanel's own source, then use the table. Whatever the figure is, size for the panel plus the sites it will host, not the panel alone.

Three Things Worth Deciding Before You Order

None of these sells you a bigger plan. All three save people money or trouble.

The licence is a real, separate cost

cPanel is not a small line item, and its pricing has moved over the years. Get a current quote from cPanel or an authorised partner before you buy a server, so the total is a decision rather than a surprise. We would rather tell you that than have you find out after ordering.

Consider whether you need one at all

A panel earns its licence fee when you manage accounts for other people who need their own logins. For a handful of your own sites, Nginx and a shell cost nothing and present far less attack surface. Running a stack without a panel →

A panel is a large attack surface

It is a privileged web application listening on your server, and it needs patching like everything else. On an unmanaged plan that is your job. Whichever panel you choose, keep it current — an out-of-date control panel is a bad thing to have facing the internet.
